WHAT'S IN A NAME?

“That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet.” ~ William Shakespeare

In the above quote from Romeo and Juliet, the great writer, William Shakespeare implied that the name does not make the thing any less than the thing already is. Alternatively, the name of a thing does not give it the qualities and properties that are inherent to the particular thing, which I can agree with. But after a word is attached to a meaning, and we use it to name or describe another thing, I believe that there is a tremendous amount of value and connotations that comes with it. Let me explain further…

If Romeo’s surname was not Montague, but was instead, let’s say, Smith, then the Capulet family would have had their feud with the Smith family, and Juliet would still not have been allowed to be with him; it was not because Romeo’s name was Montague, but rather because of what that name meant, or the history that came with the name. Similarly, if you had to call someone you adore a rose, that name only has the desired effect because of the meaning it has before you gave it to the person you hold dear.

A name is just a word until it’s given a meaning

My name is Satvika, but before that name was given to me, it had a meaning: pure, coming from the word Sattva, which is associated with having a serene, harmonious and balanced mind or attitude. Now, even though we will never actually know, I truly believe that I would not be the person I am today if the name ‘Satvika’ was not given to me. To me, the name came with a sense of responsibility and duty, which I didn’t realise or acknowledge until much later in my life. In March 2019, something amazing and life-changing happened to me, which you’ll get to know about as you explore the page, and it made me see that I was not who I was supposed to be. I was always trying to be who I thought others wanted me to be.

Everything in life happens for a reason, there are no mistakes, and I was given the name ‘Satvika’ for a reason. The name encourages me and helps mentally and physically to be the person I was born to be. It helps me stay on the path I’m meant to be on, and focus on the purpose I’m meant to fulfill. That is fundamentally why I chose the name Satvic Lifestyle for this website. You will see that I love playing with words, and phrases that have multiple meanings. I want to adopt a sattvic lifestyle, and because I have experienced first hand how your life can improve in all aspects, I would like to inform, educate and encourage others to do the same so you can share in the life-changing benefits.

This is our space, make yourself at home

As I post more stories on the site, you will get to know more about how I think, what is important to me, how I got to the space (mental, emotional, spiritual and physical) I am presently at and so much more. While you get to know me better, I would love to experience the same with you. I believe there is great benefit in getting to know the people in the community out there so I can better serve you. So, don’t be shy, please use this space, make yourself at home and treat it as if it were your own, because it is – this is our Satvic space
