What I’m most thankful for today is that we walked that extra distance yesterday. A great way to demonstrate yet another simple but important lesson. Rather than saying “why do today what you can do tomorrow”, consider this: “do what you can today to make tomorrow easier”. What do you guys think about that? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
Day 2 Trekking:
Monjo (2840 masl) to Namche Bazaar (3440 masl) – 4 to 5 hours, 8 to 9 km.
Our trek today, was mostly uphill, 600 m uphill to be exact! Now, if trekking is not really your first choice in casual or bedtime reading topics, trust me on this one, a 600 m elevation gain is no joke.
Nevertheless, we completed the day’s trek in good time and arrived at Namche Bazaar in time for a well deserved lunch. The highlight of the trek today is definitely crossing the longest and the highest suspension bridges on the route – definitely not for the feint hearted, but I absolutely loved it.
About Namche Bazaar
The village we are staying at today is the biggest one we will pass on the trek. It has an extraordinary atmosphere that is so welcoming and energizing. The culture is also really amazing to experience and be immersed in and is actually one of the main reasons I wanted to do the trek to Base Camp, so I’m extremely excited and thrilled that it is as I had hoped and expected.
As I write this post, we are relaxing in our very modest room and listening to some live music that is playing at another hotel. The feeling is just pure happiness, peace, love, absolute bliss at the ultimate level. There is nothing I can think of that would make the moment more joyful (except maybe if my mum was with us – Hi mum, miss you). I genuinely hope and pray that every person gets to experience this feeling at least once in their life. For those who have already felt it, and know what I’m talking about, I’m sure you can agree with me that this feeling has nothing to do with anything physical or material. That is the reason I wish everyone can experience it: so that you know that this feeling, this pure happiness, this bliss, is not dependant on things, and so that you know that any level of happiness you think a specific thing brings you cannot even compare to it.
Yak Attack!
Okay, we’re getting quite deep here… So, I’d like to close this post on a lighter note. Something I haven’t really told you about yet are the numerous encounters we have had with the animals on the trek. Every now and again we are forced to the side of the path to make way for donkeys or japkays (a cross breed between a yak and a cow), and I say forced because if you don’t move out of the way, they will move you! So, that was a new and interesting (and a bit scary) scenario that we will probably experience many more times as we continue on our journey.
With that said, I think it’s time to call it a day; we have another short but steep climb tomorrow. Thank you once again for your support and well wishes. I can feel the energy and positivity, which is giving us additional strength to continue on this life-changing journey. I hope I am conveying the experience with you in a way that you are able to feel like you are with me, and I welcome and encourage you to give me any feedback or advise on how I can improve my posts and messages since this is very new to me.
Thanks again, everyone!
Bye for now.
Hi Satz.
Miss you too.
Enjoy your adventure.
Love from Mum
